Dallas is located in the Central Time Zone in North Central Texas, 30 miles east of Fort Worth, 240 miles north, northwest of Houston, and 300 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico. Dallas is the county seat of Dallas County. Some portions of the city also extend into Collin, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties.

Additionally, AMTRAK offers daily service from Union Station to Dallas.
